Live! from the Library: Brave Little Nell—The Eleanor Roosevelt Story

January 16, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Live! from the Library presents an imaginative “meet and greet” with one of history’s most famous women. Beloved and despised, belittled and adored, Eleanor Roosevelt faced tragic losses and challenges as a child and as a young woman. Despite hardships, she went on to become a passionate advocate for human rights. Bay Area actress Laurie Strawn will bring Eleanor’s story to life, sharing the former First Lady’s personal history along with the remarkable life and times that Mrs. Roosevelt lived in. REGISTER>

While a company member at Sierra Repertory Theater in Sonora, Laurie was asked to create a one woman show about Eleanor Roosevelt. Thus, Brave Little Nell-the Eleanor Roosevelt Story, was born. She has performed in theaters throughout the Bay Area for more than 15 years, including at Berkeley Playhouse, Hillbarn Theater, Contra Costa Civic Theatre, and Diablo Theatre Company. Laurie lives in San Francisco with her husband, Lee Strawn, a gifted singer, actor and voice teacher, and their daughter, Julia, a budding actress herself.

Live! from the Library, produced by the Walnut Creek Library Foundation, features free public lectures, literary events, and cultural programs at the Walnut Creek and Ygnacio Valley libraries. Program sponsors are the East Bay Times, Friends of the Walnut Creek Library, and MinutemanPress Lafayette.
