Thanks for the Memories event held January 13
Over 700 members of the community came to say good-bye to the old downtown Walnut Creek Library. Mayor Gwen Regalia thanked past librarians, and Beverly Bortin reminisced about opening day in 1961. The event included a time-line of events at the library over the past 47 years, and people enjoyed music from the Rossmoor Big Band and Foothill Middle School Jazz Band.
After nearly 47 years of service, the downtown Walnut Creek Library closed on Nov. 30 to make way for the construction of the new library, which is scheduled to open in spring of 2010. A small, temporary library facility opened on Jan. 2, 2008 at Park Place at the corner of North Broadway and Civic Drive.
