Climate Careers Chat

January 20, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

This event will feature two panelists from the natural resource conservation field, Hannah Lopez from Fire Forward and Sarah Phillips from Marin’s Urban Streams Program, who will share their education, career history, and advice with the audience.

As an undergraduate, Hannah Lopez majored in forestry. Through her studies, she fell in love with wildland fire as a tool for ecological restoration and fuel management. After graduating and pursuing career interests in Geospatial Information Systems, she realized she is happiest doing on-the-ground work in wildland fire settings, so she joined the Fire Forward program of Audubon Canyon Ranch, which works to expand prescribed fire capacities in the California Bay Area through outreach, training, and the implementation of on-the-ground prescribed fire treatments.

Sarah Phillips studied biology and restoration ecology at Sonoma State University. She has served as Marin’s Urban Streams Program Manager for seven years and helps streamside homeowners in Marin with project guidance, permitting assistance, and restoration activities, as well as violation resolutions. Much of her work focuses on habitat preservation and restoration, project management, and education around watershed processes and creek stewardship.

The Climate Careers Chats are interactive, quarterly events that feature a broad and diverse range of speakers from the California Bay Area and beyond. These free events aim to educate anyone interested in environment-related careers, from students to seasoned professionals. The Climate Careers Chats are produced by Sustainable Leaders In Action, Sustainable Contra Costa’s youth-led team, and are co-hosted by the Contra Costa County Library.
