Year of the Ox – Kite Material List

Material List

1 plastic bag

  • If using a trash bag with draw string, keep the drawstring and use as kite tail

2 wooden dowels, both 16” long, diameter 3/16

30 feet (approximately) string to tie the dowels together and use as kite string

  • Any kind of long and thin string will do, I used thin crochet thread

Permanent markers

Painter’s tape or similar

3”x9” piece of thick cardboard

Pencil, scissors, ruler

You can find most of the material at home. Wooden dowels can be found at craft or home improvement stores. They are usually longer than 16”. Use a craft knife or scissors to cut them to size. It is important that the dowels are as thin as possible, 3/16 is best, because the kite needs to be as light as possible. You can use a fishing line to fly the kite or if you have string and reel from a previous kite you can of course reuse it.
