Designing the Lush Dry Garden
Alice Kitajima is the Program Director at the Ruth Bancroft Garden. Her profound connection to gardens and landscape design started at an early age, thanks to the influence of her father, who immigrated to Los Angeles to install Japanese-style gardens. She has forestry and music degrees from University of California, Berkeley and co-authored Designing the Lush Dry Garden, a 2025 handbook on how to create “a climate-resilient, low-water paradise.”
