Master Gardeners: Espalier! A Touch of Art to Maximize Production and Ease with Your Fruit Trees

UC Master Gardener Helen Erickson is the Orchard Manager at Our Garden.  She is passionate about fruit trees in her own garden and has cared for the orchard at Our Garden since its inception.  She practices both the espalier technique of training a tree to grow in a flat plane against a wall or other support system as well as simple, judicious pruning of fruit trees into a natural form.  Both techniques keep the trees smaller and thus allow for easier care and harvesting. 

Helen can usually be found in the orchard at Our Garden on Wednesday mornings when we are open to the public for presentations and free advice.
