Join Sustainable Leaders in Action on Thursday, August 25th from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM PST for the next Climate Careers Chat!
This event will feature two panelists from the governmental sector, Michael Cass from the City of Dublin and Natasha Benjamin from the Walnut Creek City Council, who will share their education, career history, and advice with the audience.
Michael Cass is an experienced land use planner with 17+ years in the public and non-profit sectors. Professionally, Michael currently is a Principal Planner for the City of Dublin, where he focuses on advanced planning. Before Dublin, Cass was Principal Planner of Long-Range & Sustainability Policy with the City of Concord (2016-2019) and a planner with the City of Lafayette (2004-2016). He holds a B.A. in communication from St. Mary’s College of California and a certificate in land use and environmental planning from UC Davis Extension. Cass also serves as Director-Elect for APA California – Northern Section and as an Advisory Board Member for Sustainable Contra Costa.
Cindy Darling has a Wildlife and Fisheries Biology degree from UC Davis and spent 27 years first with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and then with the California Bay Delta Authority. She worked to find ecosystem level solutions for fish and wildlife, including endangered species, impacted by development projects including major water projects in the Sacramento San Joaquin Delta. When she retired she volunteered on the Walnut Creek Planning Commission for 10 years and 3 years on the San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority Independent Oversight Committee Chair. In 2020, she was elected to the Walnut Creek City Council.
The Climate Careers Chats are interactive, quarterly events that feature a broad and diverse range of speakers from the California Bay Area and beyond. These free events aim to educate anyone interested in environment-related careers, from students to seasoned professionals. The Climate Careers Chats are produced by Sustainable Leaders In Action, Sustainable Contra Costa’s youth-led team, and are co-hosted by the Contra Costa County Library.
