Fall Update

Dear Friends,

As we near the end of 2021, I think we are all looking forward to seeing the pandemic in our rear-view mirror! During this difficult time, libraries provided a critical sense of community connection that we all needed through online programs, curbside pickup of library materials, and digital access to a broad range of services.

Charged Particles & Tod Dickow on Dec. 7

There is much to celebrate as we look ahead. As I write this note, the Walnut Creek Library Foundation is getting ready for our first in-person Live! from the Library program on December 7th. Join us to hear jazz trio “Charged Particles” in the Oak View Room at the Walnut Creek Library as we celebrate our first live event since the pandemic began. We are also excited to share that after a 2-year hiatus, we are planning the return of our annual Authors Gala on May 14, 2022, with the theme “An Enchanted Evening”. Please save the date and stay tuned for more information in the coming months.

Thanks to your donations, the Walnut Creek Library Foundation contributed $50,000 toward maintaining extra open hours when the City of Walnut Creek’s finances, impacted by the pandemic, led to reduced funding of open library hours. Together, we ensured library access for 52 hours per week at both the downtown library and the Ygnacio Valley Library when it’s ready to reopen.

While the Ygnacio Valley Library is closed, it is being refreshed with a repaved parking lot, upgrades to the curb ramps and walkways to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and a new laptop kiosk purchased with funding from Walnut Creek Library Foundation. We look forward to celebrating its return to service in the coming months.

All of the fabulous, free programs offered and the critical materials and equipment needed at our libraries is made possible by your donations to the Walnut Creek Library Foundation. The WCLF offers many ways for you to support our libraries such as the following:
